Brampton Acro Ropers

The Brampton Acro Ropers have been a competitive jump rope team since they were established in 1987. Our members have travelled throughout Canada and the United States promoting the sport of jump rope and performing in competitions. Indeed, the Acro Ropers have represented Canada and Brampton in Japan, Hong Kong, and Australia. In December, the majority of our club attended a 2-day workshop taught by the U.S. All-Star Team in Ohio. As well, many of our senior athletes have been training diligently in the hopes of representing Canada at the 2008 World’s Competition in South Africa.

Our performance history encompasses appearances in the Disney movie Jump In!, on Canada A.M., CityTV, and YTV, at Toronto Argonaut football games, at the Eaton’s Centre, Guelph University basketball half-time shows, the Relay for Life run, in the local Santa Claus parade and many Heart & Stroke events. Our demonstrations are designed to promote not only the sport of jump rope, but also the benefits of personal development, health, fitness, and fun that are exemplified in skipping. Accordingly, the BAR club sponsors a recreation program to inspire young and novice skippers to develop their talents.

Our 2007-08 club membership consists of 25 athletes, ranging in age from 8 to over 18 who practise a minimum of six hours each week from the beginning of September until the end of June. Currently, the Acro Ropers are home to the 2007 National Champions in Junior & Intermediate Masters, and Intermediate Team, along with record holders for 3-minute speed at the 12 – 14 level; triple unders at the Intermediate level, and double dutch.

The Brampton Acro Ropers are led by the expertise of our seasoned coaches – Amy Grimason and Elvis Malcolm – who have earned over 15 world champion-level titles between them. As well, the elite athletes, Aly Hodgins and Matt Delorey, who have achieved tremendous success at national and world competitions, bring with them their exceptional talents and strengths as our new assistant coaches.

Ultimately though, the Brampton Acro Ropers can be defined as talented, energetic, and dedicated athletes who are passionate about skipping and who embrace the opportunity to be ambassadors for the sport of jump rope in both our local community, throughout Canada, the U.S. and hopefully even across the world in South Africa.
